3D Digitizers

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - MicroScribe End of Life

Immersion Inc has announced that it will cease to manufacture and distribute the MicroScribe line of 3D measuring arms December 24th.  This is a terrible thing for the state of Physical Anthropology.  Other 3D measuring arms are available in the marketplace, but none are as portable or inexpensive as the MicroScribe.  Immersion has a number of units still available for purchase.  Full warranties will be honored by Immersion and I will continue to support my customers for the life of their instrument.  If you are considering getting into 3D morphometrics, now is the time to purchase a MicroScribe as we do not know if another manufacturer will pick up the line or when a comperable model will be offered.  Special pricing is available - call for details.

Immersion MicroScribe® 3D digitizers and portable CMMs are the fast, flexible way to capture 3D measurements.  Light enough to carry with you to the museum or field they capture 3D data directly to your computer via USB.  The RSI Laser Scanner allows you to "paint" the specimen with a laser to capture its surface shape along with all dimensions in a three dimensional "point cloud".
  • The MicroScribe G2 is currently in use by physical anthropologists around the world.
  • MicroScribe MX portable CMMs offer the highest degree of flexibility and affordability, with mid-range measurement accuracies.  The MicroScribe MX is lighter in weight and greater in accuracy than the G2.
  • 3D Laser Scanner from RSI for six degrees-of-freedom G2 and MX MicroScribe digitizers and portable CMMs sets a new price/performance point, supplying a fast, non-contact scanning solution for 3D applications.

MicroScribe/Morphologika Instructional Video

This video taken at the AMNH features Will Harcourt-Smith explaining the use of MicroScribe 3D digitizers from setup to data analysis using Morphologika.  It is 35 minutes long, but well worth it for anyone who is interested in the use of 3D digitizers in morphometrics or as an instructional video to get you started with your new MicroScribe Digitizer.  I want to personally thank Will for agreeing to do this.  This presentation is completely unscripted and shot in very few takes which lends credit to Will's mastery of the subject.
